Where Can you Find Pho in Orange County?

If you are looking for a delicious cheap lunch or dinner, you might want to try the meal that most of the students in the area know about… Pho (pronounced fa). What is it? Pho is a vietnamese noodle and beef soup that is absolutely yummy! It comes with a clear beef broth, rice noodles, and thinly sliced beef (or chicken), some onions, thai basil (some places use cilantro, which I ask them to leave off). The soup is served with sprouts, lime, and various chili sauces. You can leave the soup tasty, but not spicy, or you can really spice it up, which is how I like it.

Where can you find Pho in Orange County?

A local restaurant that serves a great bowl of Pho is Pho Olivia in Fullerton on Chapman and State College. There are a few different types of Pho, ranging in price from $5.95 to $8.95. We usually order Pho Thai Nam, which is a beef Pho with rare beef (sliced so thin it cooks in the broth as it arrives). If you like chicken you should order the Pho Ga. I love it pretty spicy. If you like it the same way, be sure to keep a pack of tissues nearby. There’s nothing like a bowl of spicy Pho to clear your sinuses. This is a great meal if you think you are starting to come down with a cold. It may be able to stop it in its tracks.

Vietnamese eggrolls are also wonderful, and Pho Olivia does a great job with them…crispy and delicious. Her eggrolls are served with lettuce, shredded carrots, and sliced cucumbers. If you haven’t eaten them the Vietnamese way before, you use the lettuce as an outer wrapper, layer the veggies inside it, and the wrap it all around the eggroll, dip it in the sweet fish sauce and enjoy.

I will warn you that a small bowl of Pho and eggrolls will leave you feeling very, very full. The large bowl is definitely for big appetites.

The food at Pho Olivia is delicious, and the service is amazing. If you are a student or attending a function at Cal State Fullerton and you are on a short schedule, this is the place for you. They can get you in and out of the restaurant quicker than any place I’ve ever seen, and they are incredibly nice while they are doing it!

Olivia is the owner and she opened the restaurant with her two sisters. It is their second restaurant. Their parent came over to the US from Hanoi, and they really taught their girls to cook traditional Vietnamese food! YUM! The restaurant is also simple but beautiful. Many Vietnamese restaurants tend to be no frills dives, but not Pho Olivia. She has done a great job of making the surroundings relaxing and comfortable.

This is a must see hidden gem of Orange County not to be missed. Say hi to Olivia when you stop in, she’s usually there minding the shop:
